Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BIAL) is one of India's busiest aviation hubs — handling tens of millions of passengers annually across domestic and international terminals. Behind the departures board, the retail concourses, and the boarding gates runs an infrastructure that most passengers will never see: kilometres of structured cabling, hundreds of IP cameras, dozens of access-controlled doors, enterprise-grade wireless networks, and the servers that tie all of it together.
In an airport, infrastructure failure isn't a Help Desk ticket. It's a security incident, an operational disruption, or a regulatory non-compliance — often all three simultaneously. Every camera must record. Every door must open only for authorised personnel. Every network drop must stay live. And every system must keep working while 50,000 people move through the terminal.
Layerix Networking Experts was engaged to design and deliver a complete enterprise IT security infrastructure across four sections — structured cabling and OFC fiber backbone, IP CCTV and VMS, HID access control with C·CURE 9000, and Cisco Catalyst enterprise switching and WiFi 6E. The Challenge — Aviation-Grade Infrastructure, Zero Tolerance for Error
An airport is perhaps the most demanding environment for IT infrastructure deployment. The bar isn't "works most of the time." It's "works always, under any condition, with full auditability." The specific challenges at BIAL:
- 28km of fiber backbone required: Connecting terminal buildings, remote stands, and operational zones across a geographically distributed campus demanded armoured single-mode fiber at scale — not patch cords.
- LSZH mandatory throughout: Fire safety regulations for aviation infrastructure require Low Smoke Zero Halogen cabling throughout. Standard PVC cable is not permitted inside terminal buildings.
- AI-ready camera coverage with PTZ capability: Static dome cameras alone are insufficient for an airport — long perimeter distances, vehicle tracking, and active monitoring zones require high-resolution PTZ cameras with AI analytics built in.
- 1,000-cardholder access management across 15 doors: Staff access zones, airside/landside boundaries, and restricted operational areas each require specific access policies — with full audit trails and emergency fire release.
- Enterprise switching with 5-year SLA: Aviation networks require switch infrastructure with long-term support agreements, DNA licensing, and embedded network intelligence — not commodity hardware.
Layerix responded with a four-section BOQ covering every layer of the stack — passive infrastructure, active surveillance, physical security, and enterprise networking — all delivered and commissioned by a single in-house certified team.

End-to-End Commissioning & Documentation
Full system testing — Fluke copper certification, fiber OTDR testing, camera coverage validation, access control audit trail verification, VMS recording confirmation, and WiFi coverage testing. Complete as-built documentation, IP scheme, device inventory, and user guides delivered at handover.
