Ramanashree House — the group's head office and main branch — is the operational nerve centre for the entire group: reservations, administration, management, and front-desk coordination all run from here. Behind the warm welcomes and smooth check-ins lies a layer of technology that most guests never think about — until it stops working.

WiFi that drops during a business call. A camera that missed the moment something went missing. A staff attendance system held together by manual registers and trust. An intercom that requires walking three floors to relay a message. These aren't dramatic failures — they're the everyday friction that quietly erodes both operational efficiency and guest confidence.

Ramanashree Hotels engaged Layerix Networking Experts — a Bengaluru-based enterprise IT infrastructure company with a zero-outsourcing model and 35+ certified in-house engineers — to replace the patchwork with a single, properly engineered infrastructure stack. The brief: five systems, one partner, 15 days, no guest disruption.

The Challenge — Five Vendors or One?

The typical hotel IT procurement story goes like this: one vendor for WiFi, another for CCTV, a third for access control, a fourth for telephony, and a fifth for cabling. Each quotes independently, each installs independently, and when something breaks, you spend 45 minutes on hold trying to figure out whose problem it is. Ramanashree Hotels had seen enough of that model.

  • WiFi dead zones in back-office areas: Staff using mobile data for inventory and housekeeping updates — a daily workaround that cost real time.
  • No IP CCTV coverage at key entrance points: Disputes over staff entry/exit times with no footage to resolve them, and blind spots at loading areas that posed a genuine security risk.
  • Paper-based staff attendance: Manual registers at shift changeover — inaccurate, manipulable, and impossible to audit remotely.
  • No internal IP telephony backbone: Department-to-department communication relied on personal mobile phones, creating both cost and accountability gaps.
  • Tight 15-day window: The entire scope needed to be completed during a scheduled low-occupancy period — overshoot the timeline and you're drilling holes next to occupied guest rooms.

Layerix responded with a single Bill of Materials covering all five systems, a parallel-track installation schedule, and a commitment: one team, one point of accountability, fully commissioned in 15 days.

The Scope — Five Systems, One Rollout

Every component of the infrastructure — passive cabling, active switching, wireless, surveillance, access control, and telephony — was designed, sourced, installed, and commissioned by Layerix's in-house certified engineering team.

Structured Cabling — CommScope Cat6

CommScope Cat6 UTP cable runs throughout the property, terminated at a D-Link 24-port loaded patch panel in a 9U wall-mount rack with horizontal cable manager. RJ45 CAT6 keystone jacks, D-Link patch cords, and full cable labelling — the foundation every other system sits on.

IP CCTV Surveillance

WiFi IP cameras deployed at all entrance and key monitoring points, each with 256GB microSD on-device storage for continuous local recording. No NVR dependency at the camera level — footage is always available even during network interruptions.

Biometric Access Control & Attendance

ESSL MB160 fingerprint biometric attendance terminal for digital staff time-tracking — eliminating manual registers permanently. Provided complimentary by Layerix as part of the complete solution package.

EM Door Lock & RFID Access

Electromagnetic door lock, Mifare RFID cards, and exit switch installed at restricted staff-only entry points — giving the property auditable, physical access control over sensitive areas like the back office and storage. Also provided complimentary.

Grandstream IP PBX / EPABX

Grandstream UCM6301 IP PBX/EPABX with 1 FXO + 1 FXS port capacity — scalable to 500 users — paired with Grandstream GRP2601W wireless IP handsets. Every department now has a direct extension, no mobile phones needed for internal calls.

Aruba WiFi 6 + PoE Managed Switch

Aruba AP21 (2×2 MIMO) and AP25 (4×4 MIMO) WiFi 6 ceiling-mount access points for property-wide guest and staff wireless coverage. Powered and managed through a TP-Link SG2428P 24-port PoE+ managed switch with 4×1G SFP uplinks, and a TP-Link ER605 multi-WAN load balancer.

The 15-Day Sprint

With a hard deadline driven by the hotel's occupancy calendar, Layerix ran three parallel work tracks across 15 days — cabling and rack in the first five, access control and telephony in the middle five, and wireless and final commissioning in the last five. Here's how it went.

Days 1–5Structured Cabling, Rack & CCTV Backbone

Laying the Foundation — Before Anything Else Goes In

No WiFi, CCTV, or telephony works reliably without a proper structured cabling infrastructure underneath. Day one started with a site walk, cable route planning, and conduit installation — before a single active device touched the wall.

CommScope Cat6 Cable Runs

Cat6 UTP cable pulled through PVC conduit and trunking to every drop point — AP locations, camera positions, IP phone desks, and the patch panel.

9U Rack & D-Link Patch Panel

9U wall-mount rack installed with a horizontal cable manager and D-Link 24-port loaded patch panel as the central termination point. Clean from day one.

CCTV Back Boxes Positioned

5"×5" CCTV back boxes mounted at entrance points before camera installation — keeping all wiring concealed and structured from the outset.

Every cable end, patch panel port, and drop point labelled with a consistent scheme — so any engineer, any day, can trace any cable in under a minute.

Days 6–10Biometric Access Control, EM Lock & IP Telephony

Securing the Property & Connecting the Departments

With the cabling backbone commissioned, the team split into two parallel tracks: one running biometric access control and IP cameras, the other standing up the Grandstream IP PBX.

ESSL MB160 Biometric Attendance

Fingerprint terminal installed at the staff entry point and enrolled. Replaced paper registers permanently — attendance is now timestamped, audit-ready, and accessible remotely.

EM Door Lock + RFID Cards

Electromagnetic door lock and exit switch fitted at the restricted staff access door. Mifare RFID cards issued. Only authorised personnel pass. No tailgating, no disputes.

IP CCTV Cameras — Entrance Points

WiFi IP cameras mounted at entrance and key monitoring positions. Each camera records locally to 256GB microSD — continuous footage, independent of network health.

Grandstream UCM6301 IP PBX

EPABX configured with FXO/FXS lines and wireless GRP2601W handsets issued to key departments. Housekeeping, front desk, kitchen, and management now connected on a single internal extension system — no mobile minutes wasted.

Days 11–15Aruba WiFi 6, PoE Switching & Final Commissioning

Going Live — Wireless Coverage, Network Backbone & Handover

The final five days brought the enterprise WiFi 6 access points online, validated every system end to end, and handed the property a fully documented, trained, and signed-off infrastructure.

Aruba AP21 & AP25 WiFi 6

Ceiling-mount Aruba AP21 (2×2 MIMO) and AP25 (4×4 MIMO) access points deployed at planned positions for full property coverage. Guest WiFi and staff WiFi on separate SSIDs with VLAN segmentation.

TP-Link PoE+ Switch & Load Balancer

TP-Link SG2428P 24-port PoE+ managed switch with 4×1G SFP uplinks powers APs and cameras over a single Cat6 drop each. TP-Link ER605 multi-WAN router provides load balancing and failover.

End-to-End System Testing

CCTV footage playback verified, biometric enrolment confirmed for all staff, RFID card access tested, IP phone extensions validated, WiFi roaming and speed confirmed across all coverage zones.

Handover & Documentation

On-site training for the facility manager covering every system. Full handover pack delivered: IP scheme, device credentials, as-built cable diagram, warranty cards, and user guides.
