The Challenge — WiFi That Has to Work in a Cleanroom

Aruba 9106 TAA Hybrid Gateway Controller

2 × HPE Aruba Networking 9106 (S5Q45A) — 2×SFP+, 2×Combo, 2×PoE TAA Hybrid Gateway. Hardware controller for the full 60-AP campus deployment, with 3-year NBD exchange licenses (H98Y0E). Central management, roaming policy, SSID, and authentication all governed from a single pane of glass.

Aruba CX 6200F — 24G PoE+ Managed Switches

5 × HPE Aruba CX 6200F 24G Class4 PoE 4SFP+ 370W managed switches (JL725B) — powering APs over PoE with full L2/L3 management, VLAN segmentation, and 4×SFP+ uplinks for fiber backhaul. 370W per switch to handle high-density AP power budgets.

Before a single AP box was opened, Layerix engineers walked the Kemwell campus and generated a predictive RF heatmap survey — mapping signal attenuation through walls, equipment bays, and structural elements to determine the exact AP locations that would deliver the required coverage with the minimum number of APs. Then the cabling went in.

CommScope Cat6A Shielded Cable Pulls

9 rolls of CommScope Cat6A shielded cable routed through 500m of 1-inch PVC conduit to every ceiling AP drop point — shielded specifically for the EMI environment of pharma production zones.

5× CommScope Patch Panels — Loaded

CommScope Cat6A loaded patch panels terminated and installed in Netrack 6U racks — one distribution point per building zone. Every port labelled and documented before the racks were closed.

Fluke Certification — All 60 Ports

Every Cat6A cable run tested with Fluke DSX CableAnalyzer. Pass/Fail report generated for every port. The test reports go directly into the Kemwell qualification documentation package.

Power the APs Before You Mount Them

The switching layer went in before a single AP touched the ceiling. With 60 APs drawing PoE power, the PoE switch configuration, VLAN design, and uplink fiber connections were validated at the rack level first — so AP onboarding could happen cleanly, one zone at a time.

5× Aruba CX 6200F — 370W PoE+ Each

HPE Aruba CX 6200F 24G Class4 PoE 4SFP+ 370W managed switches installed in Netrack racks. 370W per switch gives enough PoE headroom for 12 APs per switch at full 802.3at draw — no power budget surprises.

VLAN Segmentation — Staff, Lab, Guest

Network segmentation configured at the switch level — separate VLANs for GMP production zones, research labs, administration, and guest access. Traffic isolation between zones enforced from the switch upward.

4×SFP+ Fiber Uplinks

Each CX 6200F connected to the core via SFP+ fiber uplinks — high-bandwidth, low-latency backhaul for a campus where 60 simultaneous WiFi 6 APs will eventually saturate a copper uplink.

Aruba 9106 controller configured with campus SSID profiles, WPA3 authentication, 802.11r fast BSS transition for seamless roaming, band steering, and airtime fairness — critical for lab technicians moving between zones with wireless devices.
